The Conflict

The extreme dry conditions in North Africa were greatly felt by Darfur which is made up of farmers and animal herders, mostly of Arabic decent. The shortage of natural resources in this area led to fighting over land used to graze herds and grow crops which escalated into larger tribal conflicts. The "Janjaweed" militias ("devils on horseback") backed by the Sudanese government carried random attacks on villages leaving over 400,000 dead and over 2 million displaced.

Water Supply

The war in Darfur has left many villages in shambles. Water supplies have been poisoned. The shortage of clean water has led wide spread diseases, forcing many to flee to refugee camps, making an already bad refugee problem worse. For most villages in Darfur, the sources of water are from surface lakes which are full during the rainy season in August and September. These lakes are no longer a dependable source of water because of the drought and waste from other natural and animal contaminants.

Our Plan for Darfur

The people of Darfur need our help urgently. We plan to assist them by digging boreholes. They are much deeper and are sealed at the surface with concrete, preventing the possibility of contamination from animals and other sources and provide access to an even greater reservoir of water. Join us lend a helping hand.
